A Decade of dedication at Tilburg University
Ferenc Jongejan has been working at Tilburg University for over 10 years. Starting as a top sports coordinator, he has further developed policy and is now Dual Career Officer. His journey symbolizes growth and adaptation, through which he uses his valuable experience to strengthen the university.
Elite athlete with a
strategic vision
With a background as a former professional baseball player, including participation in two Olympic Games (Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004) and a career with the Chicago Cubs, Ferenc brings an unparalleled elite level sports mentality. He served as head coach of the Dutch women's softball team for five years and is currently Technical Manager of KNBSB's Elite Softball program. His competencies and experience from elite sports, both as an active athlete and in coaching and management roles, are directly applicable to his work for the University Council.
Strategic thinking and the 'why' question
Ferenc distinguishes himself through his ability to think in terms of structures and the 'big picture'. He likes to ask the 'why' question: Why do we do things, and what problem do we want to solve? This approach helps him and SUSTAIN by Flexibility to look beyond short-term gain and always keep the long-term goal in sight. He is married and has a 10-year-old daughter, which further reinforces his reflective and people-oriented approach.
Ferenc can be blunt, direct, and critical, and does not shy away from asking follow-up questions, but always with the aim of gaining a better understanding and having a clear view of an approach or solution.
