A new voice for a
Sustainable, Flexible,
Efficient, and Caring
Tilburg University
Our Story
SUSTAIN by Flexibility grew from the insights and convictions Ferenc Jongejan developed over more than ten years at Tilburg University. By witnessing firsthand how processes, people, and ambitions intersect within a complex organization, a clear vision gradually emerged of what it takes to work in a sustainable and future‑focused way.
The foundation of SUSTAIN by Flexibilty lies in the blend of elite level sports mindset and academic thoroughness. Focus, discipline, resilience, and (self-)reflection are not only Ferenc’s personal drivers — they form the essence of SUSTAIN by Flexibility itself. Through his years of experience in both support services and education, he saw how four elements are essential for any organization that aims to grow: sustainability, to create long‑term value; flexibility, to stay agile in times of change; efficiency, to make the best possible use of talent and resources; and well‑being, because motivated and healthy people are the foundation of any strong organization. Together, these four core values shape the compass of SUSTAIN by Flexibility.
What started as a personal conviction has evolved into a vision capable of strengthening an entire community.

- Corporate Sustainability
- Flexibility as a Strength
- Trust in Expertise
- Excellence through a Top-Sport Mentality
Our Focus

Environmentally conscious choices, the well-being of students and staff, corporate sustainability, continuity, and future-proofing of our education, research, and operations come together.
Reducing unnecessary rigidity in processes, curricula, and support systems enables both staff and students to excel.
Increasing professional autonomy.
Investing in quality with respect for healthy boundaries and workload.
Discipline, focus, and continuous development serve as the guiding principles.
A flexible university is a future-proof university.
We move in rhythm with the continuous societal developments.
What does SUSTAIN by Flexibility offer the University Council?
Policy is good policy if it is feasible, has broad support, has a lasting positive effect on people and the organization, and can be funded in a financially sound manner. For this reason, SUSTAIN by Flexibility will always be (constructively) critical of policy proposals, with the future-proofing of the university as the starting point.
Impact check
A simple check for every new policy proposal: What problem does it solve? What does this mean for students? What does it mean for staff and their workload? How much time, money, and adjustments does a policy change require?
Phased innovation
Work smarter, not harder. Test innovations in small environments, build support, and then implement broadly.
Use of reserves
Sustain by Flexibility sees opportunities to cover structural costs with temporary income/reserves, as long as structural funding is in prospect.
AI readiness
New AI tools are checked for: How is privacy handled? Is it secure? Is there human oversight? Additionally, it is valuable for employees and students to structurally and continuously develop skills and knowledge for working with AI tools.
Well-being
Making well-being measurable. Prevention/detection, risk analyses for both students and staff. Establishing KPIs for service delivery. We can measure how many clicks, how many appointments, how much dropout, etc. Can we also measure how students actually feel? And our staff?
